What managed IT costs: pricing model per service
Loopback states the pricing model for each of the seven services: a fixed amount per user or device per month on operations, per licence per month on cloud and licences, a fixed price on network deliveries, an hourly rate or a fixed price on consultancy hours. All prices are excl. VAT, and the rates are given in a written quote valid for 30 days.
THE OVERVIEW
Pricing model per service
What sits inside each of them is on the page about the seven services.
| Service | Delivery model | Pricing model |
|---|---|---|
| 01 Operations and management | Ongoing | Per user or device / month |
| 02 Cloud services and licences | Ongoing | Per licence / month |
| 03 Hosting | Ongoing | Per instance / month |
| 04 Network and infrastructure | One-off | Fixed price + hardware |
| 05 Consultancy | One-off | Hourly rate or fixed price |
| 06 Web and digital services | Project + ongoing | Fixed price + agreement / month |
| 07 Security | Mixed | Per device / month + fixed price |
An instance is one server or one website running with us. All prices are excl. VAT, and the rates are given in a written quote valid for 30 days from the date.
Five things that decide what it costs
These are the questions in the scoping call. If you have the answers ready, the quote can be written with fewer reservations.
The number of users and devices
01 and 02 are priced per user or device per month. The number is therefore the first thing we ask about.
The number of servers and instances
03 is priced per instance or per plan. One server and four servers are two different agreements.
Whether a service agreement already exists
Without an agreement, more of the work is hours. With one, more of it is already paid for – and that is often cheaper than people think.
Whether the accesses are in place
Jobs that start without accesses end up costing more than the estimate. That is why the assumptions are in the quote.
Whether it is hours or a fixed price
A fixed price moves the risk to us and is priced accordingly. An hourly rate is cheaper when the scope is known. The quote always says which of the two it is.
A RULE WE KEEP
An estimate is not a price
If the figure is an estimate, the word “estimate” is there – together with what it is based on, and what happens if the scope changes. “Approx.” is not an estimate.
If it is a fixed price, it says fixed price, and then the risk of the job taking longer sits with us. If it is an hourly rate, it says hourly rate, and then it sits with you. The quote always says which of the two it is – never both, never neither.
THE BOUNDARY
What the price does not cover
Three things are always kept separate, and you should be able to see them on their own lines.
